Peru’s capital, Lima, and the cities of Pisco and Ica have the highest number of cellars in the country.
The best piscos in the country will be present at the contest and festival. Over 200 producers are expected.
The president of the Regulatory Council on the Denomination of the Origin of Pisco, Jaime Marimon Pizarro, has said that this festival aims to reinforce Peru’s national identity by promoting the pisco culture, as well as offering some of the best distilled libations for potential national and international buyers and for the visiting public.
He says that producers will show the advances made in terms of quality, presentation and technological innovation that has been emerging in the sector, while promoting responsible consumption.
The contests will recognize and award the best piscos produced from the 2011 harvest. The contests also seeks to entice producers to yield high quality piscos and friendly competition.
The most popular drink is pisco sour, a combination of pisco and sweet lemon or lime juice and frothy egg whites.
CONAPISCO registered 420 cellars in 2010. Denomination of Origin refers to country, region or determined place from which a pisco has been developed.
